Why COSMOS?

Cosmos comes from the Greek word "kosmos," which means order and regularity, an antithesis to the word "chaos." Cosmos adds a philosophical meaning to the term "universe." as it implies that the universe works in an ordered pattern and rule.

We believe that this set of rules that the universe follows is mathematics. We believe that all phenomena around us can be interpreted through the lens of mathematics. Whether it be something as small as nanotechnology, something as large as the orbit of planets, or something not physical, such as economics, everything has a way of mathematically explaining it.

What is COSMOS?

COSMOS is the mathematics journal of Jakarta Intercultural school, designed to engage readers with diverse mathematical interests.

Our journal is divided into two sections that serve different purposes.

Section 1: It explains mathematical concepts through real life examples and simple explanations.

Section 2: It explores real life phenomenon, such as natural sciences, economics, or technology using mathematical theories. Articles in section 2 are more complex than section 1 articles.

Our Goal

We aim to foster the interest of mathematics of all students by conveying that mathematics is not theoretical, yet a very useful tool in our lives. Even for many adults, mathematics remain as a trauma of their past. The goal of our journal is to break the stereotype that mathematics is only for genius people. The beauty of it is all around us.

We will publish two journals per semester. That is four journals per volume. Our journal will be available both physically in the High School Library and online in this page.

The message that we try to convey is not limited to our school. The first section of our journal will be translated in Bahasa and shared with our wider community in Jakarta such as educational centers and schools.

How to apply

You are welcome to submit writings on any subject, as long as they involve mathematical analysis. You can choose to contribute an article to either the first section, which focuses on understanding mathematical concepts through real-life examples, or the second section, which applies mathematical theories to real-world phenomena

There are sample articles in the "past articles" section.

If you are going to write an article for the October issue, please sign your name up until August 31st 2024. Please submit a pdf version of your final article until October 14th 2024.

Become a permanent member

You can also sign up to be a permanent member of the journal, which comes with several responsibilities. Please open the form below to read more. A high skill and passion for mathematics is required for this position. If you become a permanent member, your name will appear in the front page of the article.
